Amercian Concrete Institute Laboratory Program Realignment

The American Concrete Institute is excited to announce that newly-retooled ACI Laboratory Testing Technician certification programs will be launched January 1, 2008. This realignment is the result of several years of work by ACI Committee C620, Laboratory Technician Certification, to reduce content overlap between each program; reduce the number of test methods covered by each program; place the test methods into more logical groupings; and address the difference between referenced ASTM and AASHTO standards in selected programs. For detailed description of the overhauled programs please visit www.concrete.org and click on the Certification tab and then Certification Program Descriptions. The programs that are now included in the Laboratory Technician Certifications are:

ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level I
ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level II
ACI Aggregate Base Testing Technician
ACI Aggregate Testing Technician - Level I
ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level II

CHANGES TO ACI CONCRETE LABORATORY TESTING TECHNCIAN GRADE I

Due to the retooling of the ACI Laboratory programs, there is no longer an ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Grade I exam. You will automatically become certified as an ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level I once you have achieved certification as a Concrete Strength Testing Technician and an Aggregate Testing Technician Level I. You must obtain both of these certifications within a 24 month period in order to be certified as an ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level 1.

If you initiated the process of becoming ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Grade I certified in 2007, and have not completed the process (i.e. you still need to pass a written exam), you will have until your expiration in 2008 to complete the process under the retiring program policies

The Las Vegas Chapter of ACI will continue to offer the following certifications:
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
  • ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician Certification
  • ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level II
  • ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector
  • ACI Associate/Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector
In addition the Chapter has added the ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I Certification training and testing sessions. This will allow individuals to obtain ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level I certification.

The Chapter is considering the addition of training and testing programs for the ACI Aggregate Base Testing Technician as well as the ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level II to the 2008 schedule. If you have an interest in obtaining these certifications, please contact the Las Vegas Chapter office at 702-656-8827.
