ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician Certification Testing
**ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician is half of the component needed to obtain ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level I. You must also take the ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I within 24 months to obtain the ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level I.**
This certification is for personnel involved in laboratory testing for determination of compressive and flexural strength of concrete. A working knowledge of the following ASTM standards are required for this certification:
ASTM C39 |
Test Method for Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens |
ASTM C78 |
Test Method for Flexural Strength of Concrete (Using Simple Beam w/Third point loading) |
ASTM C617 |
Standard Practice for Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens |
ASTM C1231 |
Standard Practice for Use of Unbonded Caps in Determination Compressive Strength of Hardened Concrete Cylinders |
ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both criteria:
The one-hour written examination is “closed book” and consists of approximately 40 multiple choice questions. The performance exam, which is also “closed book”, requires you to perform or describe all of the required procedures for each ASTM standard . Once you pass both the written and performance exam you are certified as a Concrete Strength Testing Technician for five years. If you pass only one of the exams, either the written or performance, you have up to one year to retake the portion of the exam you failed. If you do not re-take, and pass, that portion within one year you will have to take both exams again.
Example:You take the written and performance exams on January 1, 2008 and you pass the performance but fail the written exam. You have until January 1, 2009 to retake and pass the written exam to become certified. If you do not pass the written exam by January 1, 2009, you will have to take both the written and performance exams again.
Certification registration fees include the current ACI Study Guide, procedure review session, written and performance exams. This is not a training session! If you do not have previous experience running these tests in a lab, we strongly suggest that you take the Concrete Strength Testing Technician Certification Training that the Chapter offers.
